IDEAS THAT CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO

Innovation starts with ideas

WHAT DO I PURSUE IN LIFE?

I pursue collective knowledge, and collaborative projects are at the heart of my strategy to find revolutionary solutions for problems facing today’s societies. My vision is to create the most impactful community-driven projects.

WHAT ARE MY IDEAS FOR?

My ideas focus on scientific and social projects that can significantly impact societies, including open science, educational initiatives, and people empowerment. My rationale is that we can accomplish great things when working collaboratively to tackle complex issues.

Hi! I'm Philippe.

I am a plant scientist, but I like to describe myself as an independent freelancer thinker!

My passion is to look at problems and understanding how changing the system would benefit others.

My portfolio - Projects & Ideas

The first distributed plant institute working on solutions to tackle today’s problems
The universal language of our digital communications
Connecting emotions & art to support collaborative science
Let's buy the Amazon rainforest as a community to protect it.
A new scientific publication process that is transparent, open and reproducible.
Complementary currencies to stabilise the economy.
A video-based collaborative platform for knowledge exchange.
Gathering lifetime memories in one unique place to connect generations.
Promoting research through an educational TV competition.

I can't implement all these projects by myself.

If you aspire to change the status quo and have an impact on our societies, reach out to me! Solutions to complex problems are always best identified through collaboration.

Get in touch! I’m curious to know your ideas.

Philippe V. Jutras

I spent the last ten years working as a plant scientist in different labs across the globe (Canada, Italy, Australia and the UK). I was committed to providing highly effective human vaccines and therapeutic proteins produced from plant biotechnology. I recently quit one of the best universities in the world to focus exclusively on my projects.

I want to spend the next ten years working on collaborative projects that empower research, education and people. I am passionate about new technologies and long-term initiatives that will impact generations.

I love brainstorming sessions! Reach out to me if you want to discuss a project.

Let’s buy the Amazon rainforest

Background

The Amazon is the largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest in the world. In the past years, we have witnessed major deforestation events that contributed to the loss of biodiversity and global warming.

Problem

Not enough actions are taken to protect the Amazon rainforest.

Idea

We should create a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) that will buy lands and govern the forest. Imagine if the rainforest is owned by millions of people who vow to protect it. What if the crypto community takes action to protect the most important jungle on Earth?

A new collaborative scientific publication process

Background

Scientists publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals. They have to gather enough data to create a storyline that journals will accept or not.

Problem

There are many problems in the current system: reproducibility issues, access to data, detailed description of authors’ contributions, articles published behind paywalls and fees to publish (to name a few!). All these issues must be addressed seriously. However, JPG Journals focuses on one specific problem: reducing barriers to collaboration.

Idea

The new open publishing group aims to create journals where authors publish single experiments rather than a complete article. Scientists will have to submit experiments based on previous results from the same journal to publish. The idea is to build the storyline collectively, block by block. Each journal will provide standardised protocols and version control to guarantee research reproducibility (based on Git).

Supporting local economies with dual currencies

Background

Financial systems are essential to any economy to support businesses and societies.

Problem

National financial systems face imbalances due to significant international adverse and unforeseeable circumstances. We need new approaches to increase financial stability to protect local markets.

Idea

Jutras Financial Services (JFS) aims to provide an independent complementary currency system that serves local businesses in specific countries. JFS will offer an electronic currency that will be used in combination with the national currency to create a dual-transaction system. This system is used to stimulate local economies and enhance community development.

A live video-based knowledge exchange platform

Background

Access to knowledge must be at the basis of any society.

Problem

When you want to learn a new skill, you often have to pay a premium price to access private lessons, limiting access to knowledge. You could also watch a YouTube tutorial, but it might not be specific to your needs.

Idea

The Teach-to-Learn Platform is based on live videos to share knowledge of any kind (from cooking skills to cellular biology). Participants of the platform will have to earn credits by teaching to other people. This system does not involve money, as time is the currency. For example, Alice teaches one hour and receives one teaching credit. She could then use her credit to attend a course as a trainee.

A new scientific TV competition

Background

TV shows are a great way to share knowledge with a wide range of people.

Problem

Current scientific TV competitions target a particular audience and focus mainly on participants’ general knowledge to perform well.

Idea

The idea is to create a new TV show that would highlight the problem-solving skills of scientists through friendly competitions. Participants would have to find solutions to today’s most challenging problems and convince a panel of experts. The show aims at presenting science in a different way that would engage the audience.
